Welcome to the Bytheway Genealogy
website.
I don't want to
detract from the genealogical nature of my website with a lot of newsy
chatter, but I do want to thank my regular visitors for their support and
encouragement while I have been recovering from a serious fall. The good news
is that I am about 90% recovered, and back to my research. The only change is
that I am doing it a bit less aggressively.
I am, of necessity, learning to pace myself - a new concept for me, to be
sure. Not easy. Nevertheless, I am reducing my research hours and spending a
bit more time relaxing at other activities. I have been asked why I am doing
research if I am retired. Good question. The simple answer is that, being
retired, I no longer take clients - I only do research for pure enjoyment.
Now, let's move on.

'Source Descriptions'
(so you'll know where to locate the
information)
A great deal of time and effort has gone into content and
development of the Bytheway website. Nevertheless,
I still prefer to offer information free of
charge, odd as that may sound. If you find a good use for any of these records, please remember to give proper credit, and
mention this website as your source. With that said, please respect the fact that
the pages on this website are
copyrighted
-
if you didn't develop/write/research it, don't
capture it.
I appreciate the ongoing interest and encouragement I have
received from Bytheway researchers around the world, many of whom are now precious friends. I
have also enjoyed corresponding with curious visitors, who apparently surf the
web looking for 'weird names'. ("You mean it really is a name?!
That gives me goose-bumps!"). I love this job - lots of perks, a good
laugh now and then.

Footnote:
A surprising number of people,
including teenaged visitors, have asked
whether I am related to John Bytheway, the inspirational LDS [Mormon] youth
speaker who lives in Utah. I am pleased to confirm that, Yes, John and I are 3rd
cousins. My great grandmother,
Alice [Bytheway] McDonald, and John's
great grandfather, Benjamin Bytheway, were brother and sister. Benjamin and Alice arrived
together in the
United States, having sailed from England on 4 Nov 1882, aboard the SS Abyssinia. If you will
click again on the
family photo
at the top of this page, you will find John's great grandfather, Benjamin,
standing on the back row - the one with the stylish moustache! My Alice is
there as well, looking lovely. ~
